This Week’s Events for the 5 Senses
Wondering what to do for fun this week? Feeling a little dead inside? Wake yourself up with an event for each of the 5 senses!
HEAR: Who doesn’t love weird art? Well, a lot of people, but if you do love it, here is yet another Berkeley Art Museum L@te Event (I’ve posted about this before). First Thom Faulders unveils BAMScape, a hybrid of sculpture, furniture, and stage. Then Anne McGuire 'œtakes center stage in a lounge show featuring off-kilter accompaniment by sound-collage wiz Wobbly.' WTF, right? There’s only one way to find out how bizarre an event might be.
Friday, January 29th, 7pm
L@te in January
Berkeley Art Museum
2626 Bancroft Way [Across from Berkeley campus]
$5
SMELL: Who doesn’t love the smell of chocolate? Only people who are truly dead inside (or allergic to chocolate). Charles Chocolates gives FREE tours of their factories all the time and they sound deliciously torturous as you watch the chocolatiers making their confections. Plus 'œCharles Chocolates Factory' sounds almost like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and this is an opportunity to go on a chocolate factory tour and say quotes from the movie (the original, not the shitty Depp version).
Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, 11:30am & 2:30pm
Charles Chocolates Factory Tours
6529 Hollis Street btwn 65th & 66th [Emeryville]
TASTE: Who doesn’t love to get drunk in the middle of the day? That seems to be the theme at Omnivore Book‘s Punch Contest this Saturday. Amateur mixologists and professional bartenders alike will come share a bowl of their favorite punch recipe, you get to taste them, and the winner splits the door money. 'œIt’s a win-win here, folks, so come on by and wow us with your mixing skills. Or you drinking aptitude.' I know some of you have at least the latter.
