More FREE Weekend Music — Rogue Wave and They Might Be Giants at Stern Grove

Rogue Wave -- love 'em. Remember "Lake Michigan"? Le sigh...

I remember seeing Rogue Wave as a college freshman in my school’s tiny multipurpose room, the then four members barely fitting on the makeshift “stage” and me wondering the whole time if any of them would consider banging a just-turned-legal fan.  Back then, Out of the Shadow was the album out, which I liked okay, but it wasn’t until after the release of Asleep at Heaven’s Gate in 2007 that Rogue Wave really began getting big.  Now it’s safe to say most people have heard of them, and if you haven’t, you should.  They recently played at Bottom of the Hill during Noise Pop and The Fillmore following that.  That’s the big time, people.

I didn’t happen to make either of those shows, and I’d REALLY like to see these guys again.  So my choices are to pay over $70 bucks to see them (admittedly, alongside a great lineup of other bands) on the Sunday of the Treasure Island Music Festival, or I could pay NOTHING to see them this Sunday at the Stern Grove Festival.

For FREE, you can catch Rogue Wave open for They Might Be Giants (a band I’m really not into, but won’t judge you if you are) or you could just leave after hearing “Lake Michigan.”  Living on the cheap gives you so many more options, no?

Also, according to the website, you don’t have to be sober here.  It’s a weekend, after all.  No alcohol will be sold, but bringing your own is totally fine.
