Trip the Light Unholy @ (p)RIDE on Pink Saturday
Its mid-June, folks, which in San Francisco means we are heading into the home-run stretch of Pride month. As Market street gets all polychromatic and workers frantically try to blast all the dried “character” away, all across town festivals, booze- busts, lecturers and shindigs are popping up like so many nosegays.
To help you along we’ll be highlighting all the places to go and the cheapest ways to get there. Time to get out y’all!
Pink Saturday, in theory, always sounds like a blast. Closed streets in the Mission and Castro, bars teeming with cute queers, and party, after party, after party.
The afternoon/ evening part is always awesome. It isn’t too crowded and people haven’t yet metamorphosed from adorable, darling fuzzies to salivating, snarling grotesques.
That’s why it’s always a good idea to flee the epicenter after nightfall, but where, oh where to go?
Well thanks to the young bright things behind Stay Gold, Ships in the Night and Party Hole there is (p)RIDE- An Unholy Queer Danceparty.
It’s true, this one, too has a cover, but like the Honey SoundSystem on Sunday, at the very least it isn’t over $10, which can’t be said of a lot of the larger parties.
In addition, instead of having to shoehorn yourself into some viscous matchbox like The Badlands, (p)RIDE is being held at the massive Public Works in its entirety. And it’s safe to say that beyond physical comfort, your bleeding ears will be thankful.
The all-star dj roster includes Motive, Taco Tuesday, Pink Lightning, Rapid Fire, Booty Klap, Jiggles and Durt.
Drippy, sticky belly goodness will be provided by Rocky’s Fry Bread and Angry Man Eats.
