On Friday, June 21st, Make Music New York (MMNY) will be flooding every street from Belmont Avenue to Grand Street with live musicians, live bands, and great guests, in the ultimate celebration of musical freedom.  Now in its seventh year, MMNY is inviting to celebrate the summer solstice with 1,000 concerts all day long.

If you’re looking for unique acoustical harmonies while admiring the beautiful scenery at Central Park, then the Lake Music at Central Park might be your best bet for such a scenario. If you’re lucky, you might catch 144 singers gathered in rowboats, in a circular formation, singing Schafer’s 50-minute choral work Credo.

On the other hand, you might prefer listening (and participating) in a unique meet up at Union Square, where Guitar World Magazine and NYC Guitar School are hosting a FREE, live, gathering for all guitarists. The fun begins at 4pm and the play-along jam session begins at 6pm. This special event is one of the many Mass Appeal concerts, giving New Yorkers the opportunity to participate and showcase their skills while having fun!

Suppose you can’t sit still? Well, the Privia Piano Bar might be the best party in the streets of New York. Sponsored by Casio Keyboard, accomplished piano man Nate Buccieri will be riding in the back of a pick-up truck from Harlem to the East Village from 2pm-9pm. He’ll be making various stops at noted MMNY venues, and best of all, he’ll be looking for a gorgeous voice in the crowd to help him keep the streets rocking. Will that be you?

Just because the sun goes down doesn’t mean we have to stop the music, right? Of course not! The MMNY After Dark concerts will be invading Williamsburg, Washington Heights, Harlem, The Bronx, Astoria and more!

One day just isn’t enough, though. On Saturday, June 22nd, from 11am-10pm you can take the ferry to Punk Island and spend 11 hours witnessing 90 bands on seven stages as they tear Staten Island apart. Punk is far from dead, people. The Staten Island Coast Guard Pier will soon find out.

There will be many festivals in New York City this summer, but none of them will infiltrate the streets quite like Make Music New York will in 2013. If the madness is too much for you, MMNY is offering three simple ways to navigate the festival this year on their blog here: 3 Ways to Navigate MMNY2013.

Enrique Grijalva - Mr. Minimum Wage

My father came, my mother saw...and I conquered. I encourage children to do drugs, I buy alcohol for teenagers, and I drink beer with the homeless. In my spare time, I attend art galleries for the FREE booze while rubbing elbows with modish elephants. I also hammer six-inch nails into small penises. Stuart knighted me as Broke-Ass King of New York. You've been warned.
