Obama Was Reportedly Chillin’ in North Beach Last Week

San Francisco is a city of familiar faces, and some of those familiar faces belong to Presidents. Not all of them are Presidents you want to see. Donald Trump was reportedly spotted in Pac Heights begging rich people for money last year but some of them may be Presidents you miss, and Barack Obama is a President San Francisco seems to miss.

Luckily for Obama-starved San Franciscans, the former President was spotted in North Beach’s Officina, an exclusive eatery directly above Vesuvio.

While the restaurant wouldn’t confirm to SFGATE reporters that Obama was in fact in attendance, many eyewitnesses reported seeing Obama in North Beach.

According to Redditors, there was a larger than usual security presence in the neighborhood, could they have been there to protect Obama? Probably.

San Francisco isn’t a stranger to high profile guests and North Beach is one of San Francisco’s most picturesque neighborhoods. North Beach is the same neighborhood where poets squared off with cops. Charles Bukowski famously read his poetry at City Lights back when being a misogynist was considered edgy and avantgarde. He still has good poems, but if he were alive today, I sincerely doubt he would have been booked at City Lights. Bukowski is far from the only Poet to leave a mark on the neighborhood. North Beach is the home of Beat poets like Jack Keuroac, Allen Ginsberg and Laurence Ferlinghetti.

Robin Williams was known to pop up in North Beach for shows at Bimbo’s 365 Club which was a short commute from his home in Tiburon. These legendary appearances were announced with short notice and sold out quickly. Which makes sense, it’s Robin freakin’ Williams. RIP.

Robin Williams wasn’t the only silver screen celebrity to show up in the area. Back in 2017, James Franco was taking photos with fans after visiting Caffe Trieste. This was back when people were happy about seeing James Franco. I’m not sure how he would be received since the allegations, but in 2017, North Beach was hyped.

To make a long story short, celebrities have been going to North Beach forever. It’s not in the least bit surprising that Obama decided to dine there. Now, if Joe Biden was there, it would be a bit shocking, not because Joe Biden has said anything about San Francisco, but because Biden would probably prefer to take a nap. Not that I blame him. Naps are dope.

You know what else is dope? North Beach! Don’t believe me? Ask Obama.
