Hosh Yoga: Donation-Based Yoga In Williamsburg
If there’s one thing to be thankful for in the realm of wellness and working out is donation-based yoga. I’ve been going to Yoga To The People in the East Village for years– a great, convenient, all-levels welcome studio where even the suggested donation of $10 is a total steal. But recently, I’ve discovered something a lot less crowded and a helluva lot closer to my apartment: Hosh Yoga in Greenpoint/Williamsburg, nearest to the Bedford L and Nassau G stops in that Greenpoint/Williamsburg area, two blocks south of Five Leaves.
Like Yoga To The People (YTTP), there is a suggested $10 donation, mat rentals are $2, water is $1, and classes are welcome for all levels. Even though there is one room, I’ve never seen it get too crowded, even on a weekday night. The instructors are great, and you can really reap the benefits of a more personalized and intimate class experience. They even do that thing at the end when you’re in Shavassna and they rub your head with lavender oil and adjust your shoulders. Oh, and did I mention that it’s about 150% less sweaty and NYU-student populated than YTTP? Probably its main selling points.
On weekdays, they have classes at 10am, 6:30pm, and 8pm (Tuesdays-Thursdays hey have 7am classes), and on weekends, classes are at 10am, 3pm, and 5pm. I know they plan on expanding to 2 rooms (not sure if they are enlarging, or just having 2 spaces), and starting November 1st, thye’re adding additional 12pm classes for all days. Also exciting is that they’re designating Wednesdays and Sundays as more “basics”-focused classes, which is awesome if you want to really get a chance to fine-tune your positions– something not a whole lot of studios offer, especially with classes around the clock on designated days.
